AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH JOSHUA ANDERSON ABIKWI A.K.A JANDY FROM HOUSE OF ORIGIN CUSTOM

Today, we are having a very talented and young entrepreneur who has been making waves in the fashion and clothing business and as well making a difference generally, i also like to refer to him as a human right activist,am not gonna say much about him, stay glued and find out who he is.

Its really an honour having you on AudioBoomin Celebrity and fashion Corner.

"Thanks bro. My pleasure. How you doing?".

Am doing great, can you introduce yourself, you are popular with "Jandy" Please tell us your real name(s) and how you came about "Jandy".

"Yea Jandy... Jandy is actually a brand. My real name is Joshua Anderson Abikwi. Jandy was coined from (J)oshua and Andy. That makes it Jandy".

OK, creative combinations.

"Thanks bro".

What part of the globe are you from?

"Am Nigerian by nationality (Proudly) (Smiles)".

What part of Nigeria are you from?

"I'm am from Edo State, The heart beat of the nation. I am from Estako West Local Government Area".

Can you tell us briefly about your childhood? What was it like growing up?

"My childhood was awesome, I had wonderful and supportive parents while growing up, I can't remember ever lacking anything. I went to the best schools and made good childhood friends. Like the bible says "Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it" The principles I learnt from my childhood days are what are still guiding and keeping me up till now".

OK, about school, give us a quick rundown of your educational background

"I finished my first degree from Benson Idahosa University, I studied Soil science and environmental management. 2015/2016. I also had my diploma at University of Benin, Maritime Engineering and ICT. I also plan to continue my academic pursuit after my service year".

So, its safe to say you're an Environmentalist turned fashionist

"(Smiles) that's so correct".

How long have you been into the fashion and clothing business?

"I have been into the fashion and clothing business since my Uniben days, that should be about 2011/2012.so, it's been quite a while".

What's your brand Name?

"My Brand name is "House Of Origin".

Why clothing and fashion? Were you inspired by anyone or anything?

"Actually, I wasn't really inspired by anybody. I just loved to wear something different. I always wanted to stand out with my appearance, so when I started customizing my own stuff I got good comments and orders from my friends and people around me. So I decided to take it to the next level, so i went commercial, God was faithful, and today here we are".

This means you were into this business while schooling, tell us how did you combine both when you were still in school? Am talking education, and going commercial with customizing, i know both requires quality times respectively.

"Hmmmmm, yea, they both do believe me, it wasn't an easy task. I still look back and wonder how I was able to scale through. Well the truth is God,  family and my good friends were on my side all through those periods. I had to finish from class each day and rush off to work and stayed late nights to meet up jobs that were to be urgently delivered, I actually knew one thing that Hustle and Education are both important so I didn't put anyone above the other. I found the balance and I worked with it".

So determined, i love that, What would you say are your biggest Challenge(s) in this business?

"My biggest challenge still remains our present state of the  economy. If we have our basic amenities given to us, life would be cheaper and easier to live in (Am talking Nigeria). We import most of our raw materials at a very high rate because of the economy. So if things can change for the nation it would also affect business positively".

Honestly it would, i totally agree with you on that.

Have you won any award from this business? And would you say you've gained the height of it?

"I have been awarded so many awards, to mention a few, Entrepreneur of the year 2014/2015 (FAAT award), 2015/2016 (FAAT award) , 2015/2016 (Class of Nobles) from Benson Idahosa University and recently I received a meritorious award by Igide Concepts on the occasion of Edo State Icons/Stars & Young Achievers Award (ESISYAA 16) as the Entrepreneur of the year. I wouldn't say i have gained the height yet, because there's always room for improvement, and fashion is not static, it's dynamic, that means new tecnologies and innovations coming up on a daily".

Do you love music? And what Genre?

"(Smiles) Yes, I love music a lot. Infact I love music to the extent of going out of my way to support any talented young artist.. I love Hip Hop and Afro Pop. Most especially music from our Nigerian Artists".

Are you in a serious relationship? Or in any at all?

"(Smiles) Yes".

Ok, so, who is that special one?

"I'm in a serious relationship with God, Family and friends".

Are you for real? You searching?

"My Hustle comes first bro, am just trying to be a successful young man, am pretty sure every other thing will fall into place".

Who are the 3 people that matters most in your life?

"Family, myself and friends".

Traditionally, an Entrepreneur has been defined as "a person who starts, organizes and manages any enterprise, especially a business, usually with considerable initiative and risk". "Rather than working as an employee (9 - 5), an Entrepreneur runs a small business and assumes all the risk and reward of a given business venture, idea, or good or service offered for sale. The entrepreneur is commonly seen as a business leader andinnovator of new ideas and business processes." Entrepreneurs tend to be good at perceiving new business opportunities and they often exhibit positive biases in their perception (i.e., a bias towards finding new possibilities and seeing unmet market needs) and a pro-risk-taking attitude that makes them more likely to exploit the opportunity. "My phone, my wallet and clothes".

You are a successful young man, have you ever been a victim of police brutality? And what do you have to say to that?

"Thanks for the compliment. Yes I have been a victim of police brutality so many times.it's really sad to know that people that are suppose to protect us are turning to become our worse nightmare. My job description demands my mobility, that means i move alot, I have been extorted by the Nigerian Police multiple times, on one occasion I was slapped because I refused to release my phone. On another I was almost framed as a cultist and ritualist because I refused to release money, but thank God I scaled through..."

Would you stand to fight against it?

"YES!!! am talking, with my mind, body and soul".

How do you relax? When you're not working, what do you do?

"If I'm not working, I'm chilling and hanging out with friends or better still sleeping. I love my sleep".

What's your favorite Sport? And what team do you support?

"I love football but though I'm not a true fan of football. I support Arsenal #Gunner4Life".
